Cryotherapy

Cryo Science Arctic has developed the latest technology in Whole Body Cryotherapy. Unlike other chambers which use nitrogen and require clients to keep their heads above the cooling gases, the Arctic chamber uses cold, breathable air. While nitrogen is used to cool the air, this technology prevents nitrogen from entering the chamber, which allows the entire body to be bathed with cold air.

The medical community is actively researching the benefits of cryotherapy as it is now being touted as a quick, safe method for alleviating soreness, decreasing inflammation, as well as improving mood, skin, and sleep.

What is cryotherapy?

The concept of using cold to treat illness is nothing new. Egyptians used it to treat injuries and inflammation as early as 2500 BC. In Japan in the 1970s, the concept of whole body cryotherapy was born.

The basic concept is that freezing temperatures cause the body to pull blood from the extremities to protect vital organs, resulting in super-oxygenated blood. Once out of the cold, nutrient-rich blood flows back into your extremities creating a host of benefits.

How does it work?

Whole body cryotherapy exposes the body to the extreme cold temperatures necessary to simulate hypothermia. A side effect of your body's reaction to this type of cold therapy is the diverting of blood from the extremities to the core, while in the core the blood is enriched with oxygen and nutrients. When this super oxygenated blood is returned to the limbs it helps to reduce inflammation, reduce pain and various other benefits. This form of treatment is more preferable for chronic pain than cold water immersion and ice packs.

How cold does it get?

There are 3 possible settings: Intermediate (gets to between -160 and -180 degrees) Cryo (gets between -200 and -220 degrees) and Cryo Pro (gets down to about -220 and -240 degrees).

How long does it take?

For the best effect, you should stay in for 3 minutes. That’s all it takes to reap the benefits of cryotherapy! The good news is that you can play your favorite song and dance as the cold air does its work.

How often should I do it?

Like with anything else, change may not happen overnight. While you will likely feel something after your first try, 3+ is recommended for the best results.

What are the potential benefits of using Cryotherapy?

  • Reduces pain and inflammation

  • Improves joint function

  • May help with mental disorders

  • May support exercise recovery and performance

  • Accelerated sports recovery

  • Improved Circulation

  • Improved immune function

  • May help to reset circadian rhythm, improving problems with sleep

  • Reduces cortisol production, helping to reduce stress

  • Increases metabolism

  • Boosts collagen production, leading to the lessening of wrinkles

Utilizing both therapies (cryotherapy and infrared sauna therapy) in conjunction leads to increased healing for injuries, clearer skin, and better sleep (by resetting your circadian rhythm).
